Mommy Instincts: Personal Post | Front Royal, Va Children Photographer

It took three years. Three years of doctor appointments, being told it was allergies, a stuffy nose. My claws came out and I finally complained. I demanded a referral. I had an audio recording of Jack going up to 30 seconds without breathing while he slept. He never knew how to blow his nose. It was because he physically couldn’t.  My mommy instincts told me that he needed surgery at the age of three. Unfortunately I didn’t find my “roar” until more recently.

Our visit to the ENT went perfectly. He agreed with me. Finally. Jack had apnea due to obstruction and surgery was scheduled for the same month.

We had Jack pumped up with the reminder that his big brother had the same surgery two years prior. This is almost a rite of passage in our family. At the age of 5 one must have his adenoids and tonsils removed (Lane, you have 2.5 years, bud).;)

The nurses and doctors were so kind. The surgery was done in less than 30 minutes. Jack came back into the room breathing through his nose for the first time. He was severely agitated when he returned, which we would soon find out his overreaction was due to his spectrum disorder (another mommy instinct). Soon enough he had calmed down, eaten some popsicles, laced his shoes, and we were on our way home!

Advocate for your children. They need us to be their voice while they are still learning.
