Fresh 48: Italee | Winchester, Virginia Hospital Photographer

A few months ago I posted on my Facebook page that I was in search of expecting moms that would be interested in a new program I was launching. The response was extraordinary and I felt extremely blessed that without hesitation people were willing to see what I was offering. I had wanted to offer this type of session for a while but was unsure of the response I would receive and wasn’t really sure I was ready. I’m so glad I took the leap because I landed exactly where I belong, and perhaps, where I’ve belonged throughout my entire journey as a photographer.

The first mom due was Leticia and she was scheduled for a c-section which made planning simple. I hadn’t formally met her or her husband so walking into her hospital room as a complete stranger being trusted within close proximity of her newborn was a great feeling. It was peak flu season and the hospital was on lock-down. I walked down the corridor and into the elevator to the Mother/Baby Unit and proceeded to her room. I had promised a minimal amount of images that I knew I could produce but I wanted to blow them out of the water with my photographs. I wanted them to be so grateful that they took a chance on me, because I was.  I opened the door to her room with trepidation as I know the amount of people in and out of your hospital room can be overwhelming. I was greeted with such warm and happy faces. They relished in the beauty of their new daughter as they had just become a family of 4.

Leticia and David, thank you. I was so lucky to share the short amount of time we had together with your perfect Italee.

“In my experience, it’s in the act of making things and doing our work that we figure out who we are.” – Austin Kleon, Steal Like an Artist

What is a Fresh 48 session? It is documentary style photography that will take place within 48 hours of your baby being born. The session is relaxed and easy-going. I want to capture the baby as they are.

Where do the sessions take place? At the place of birth. Whether it be a hospital, at home, birth center, etc.

Why should I book a Fresh 48 session? I will capture moments that are soon forgotten once we settle into a routine with our babies. The little heel prick to the flaky newborn skin, these are the things we soon forget.

How much is a Fresh 48 session? Please email me at or by using the contact form above for complete pricing and details.

Sarah Mazza - Heather, you are no doubt passionate in all that you do, but I know that these Fresh 48′s have a special place in your heart and it shows, my friend. I very easily could look at these all day long…I have a feeling you could just as easily shoot them all day long, too. :)
